Our client, a boutique technology‑focused law firm, is seeking an experienced Privacy Counseling Attorney to join its growing team. The firm represents a diverse client base ranging from early‑stage startups to well‑established companies across technology, data, media, online services, gaming, and publishing.
This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting‑edge privacy and data protection matters while partnering directly with innovative companies on the development and launch of their products and services. The role offers meaningful exposure to client counseling work, particularly on the “sell‑side,” supporting clients as they bring new and emerging technologies to market.
Our client offers a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment that differs from traditional large law firm models. Attorneys are encouraged to act as strategic advisors to clients, with a strong emphasis on practical, business‑oriented counseling and direct client engagement.
Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will have experience advising clients across a range of data privacy and regulatory matters, including:
- U.S. privacy compliance, including state comprehensive privacy laws and regulatory guidance and enforcement
- Advising on data “sale,” “sharing,” and targeted advertising obligations, including familiarity with AdTech frameworks
- Counseling on compliance related to one or more of the following:
- Children’s privacy
- International privacy laws
- Information security and data protection frameworks
- Reviewing and evaluating contracts for data privacy and data protection provisions
- Providing strategic, risk‑based legal advice in a fast‑moving, client‑focused environment
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in data privacy and compliance
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and provide practical legal guidance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects and maintain direct client relationships
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment while managing competing deadlines
- Prior in‑house experience is a plus
- Interest in working closely with innovative, technology‑driven clients

Location
This role follows a hybrid schedule, with an expectation of approximately three days per week in the office. Preferred locations include Washington, D.C. or New York, with additional flexibility for candidates based in San Francisco or Chicago.
Candidates must be admitted to practice in the jurisdiction in which they are based.
Compensation & Benefits
The expected base salary range for this position is $225,000 – $300,000, depending on experience and anticipated workload.
