Position Description:
Our client, a leading international law firm, is seeking a Junior Associate (JD 2023–2025) to join its Private Wealth, Trusts & Estates Practice in Chicago.

This role offers the opportunity to work with ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, family offices, trustees, and fiduciaries on sophisticated estate planning, wealth transfer, and tax planning matters. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced practitioners on a broad range of planning and administration matters involving estate, gift, generation-skipping transfer (GST), and income tax issues.

Responsibilities

  • Draft estate planning documents, including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, and related instruments.
  • Research and analyze federal and state tax issues affecting wealth transfer and estate planning strategies.
  • Assist with trust and estate administration matters.
  • Prepare legal memoranda, client communications, and other written work product.
  • Participate in client meetings and discussions regarding planning strategies.
  • Collaborate with accountants, investment advisors, fiduciaries, family office professionals, and other outside advisors.
  • Support the development and implementation of customized wealth preservation and succession planning solutions.

Qualifications

  • J.D. degree with graduation years between 2023 and 2025.
  • Strong academic credentials and legal writing skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Demonstrated interest in trusts and estates, private wealth, tax, or estate planning matters.
  • Prior experience in trusts and estates, taxation, private client services, or related areas is preferred, but not required.
  • Admission to practice law, or eligibility for admission, in Illinois is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is $225,000–$260,000, based on graduation year.
