Position Description:

Commercial Litigation Associate

Our client, a leading global law firm, is seeking a mid-level Litigation Associate (3-5 years) to join its Commercial Disputes practice in Portland.

This is an excellent opportunity for a litigation associate looking to take on significant responsibility in sophisticated commercial disputes while working closely with experienced litigators in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment. The successful candidate will manage complex matters from inception through resolution and gain meaningful client contact and courtroom experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex commercial litigation matters through all phases of litigation
  • Conduct legal research and draft:
    • Pleadings
    • Motions
    • Briefs
    • Memoranda
    • Discovery-related documents
  • Develop and implement litigation strategies in collaboration with case teams
  • Conduct depositions and witness interviews
  • Manage written discovery and document production
  • Prepare for and argue motions in state and federal courts
  • Represent clients in hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations
  • Communicate regularly with clients regarding strategy, case developments, and risk assessment
  • Stay informed regarding legal developments affecting clients and litigation strategy
  • Support business development efforts, including client presentations, networking, and relationship-building initiatives

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in good standing with the applicable state bar
  • 3-5 years of litigation experience
  • Experience handling commercial litigation matters preferred
  • Strong litigation skills, including:
    • Motion practice
    • Legal research and writing
    • Discovery management
    • Depositions
    • Court appearances
  • Excellent analytical, advocacy, and problem-solving abilities
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to independently manage matters while collaborating effectively within a team environment
  • Sound judgment and strong client service orientation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Commercial litigation experience in a law firm setting
  • Experience with electronic discovery platforms and litigation support tools
  • Admission in California or Washington is a plus

Compensation & Benefits
