Position Description:

Labor & Employment Associate

Our client, a highly respected Pacific Northwest law firm, is seeking an experienced Labor & Employment Attorney with 6-12 years of experience to join its Labor, Employment & Immigration Practice Group in Seattle. Depending on experience and business development capabilities, candidates may be considered at the Associate, Counsel, or senior-level leadership track.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an attorney seeking a sophisticated employment practice that combines litigation, counseling, and strategic client advisory work. The successful candidate will represent employers across a diverse range of industries and will have significant client contact, responsibility, and opportunities for professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Represent employers in labor and employment litigation matters, including:
    • Single-plaintiff employment claims
    • Class and collective actions
    • Discrimination and harassment claims
    • Wage and hour disputes
    • Leave and accommodation matters
  • Advise employers on day-to-day workplace issues and risk management strategies
  • Draft and review:
    • Employment agreements
    • Separation and settlement agreements
    • Workplace policies
    • Employee handbooks
  • Counsel employers regarding:
    • Disability accommodations
    • Leave management
    • Employment law compliance
    • Workplace investigations
  • Manage litigation strategy, discovery, motion practice, mediations, and hearings
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through practical and responsive legal advice
  • Collaborate with attorneys across practice groups on complex matters
  • Participate in business development and client outreach initiatives
  • Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to team development

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar
  • 6-12 years of labor and employment law experience
  • Significant experience in:
    • Employment litigation
    • Advice and counseling
    • Wage and hour matters
    • Anti-discrimination and harassment claims
    • Leave and accommodation issues
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and client service abilities
  • Ability to independently manage multiple complex matters
  • Strong organizational and case management skills
  • Demonstrated interest in business development and client relationship building

Preferred Qualifications

  • Traditional labor law experience
  • Collective bargaining experience
  • Experience advising unionized employers
  • Oregon employment law or litigation experience
  • Oregon Bar admission
  • Portable business for candidates interested in a senior-level role
