Position Description:

Privacy & Data Security Associate

Our client, a nationally recognized law firm, is seeking a Privacy & Data Security Associate (3rd-5th year) to join its Privacy and Data Security Practice. This opportunity is available in multiple office locations across the firm's national platform.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney with experience advising clients on U.S. and international privacy laws, cybersecurity compliance, data governance, and incident response matters. The successful candidate will work with clients across a wide range of industries on sophisticated regulatory, transactional, and compliance issues at the intersection of privacy, technology, and emerging regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on compliance with domestic and international privacy and data protection laws, including:
    • GDPR
    • CCPA and other state privacy laws
    • BIPA
    • CIPA
    • COPPA
    • FCRA
    • FERPA
    • GLBA
    • HIPAA
    • VPPA
    • FTC privacy and consumer protection requirements
  • Draft, review, and update:
    • Privacy policies
    • Data protection agreements
    • Vendor and customer privacy provisions
    • Internal privacy compliance documentation
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and compliance reviews
  • Support transactional privacy and cybersecurity due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, investments, and commercial transactions
  • Negotiate privacy and security provisions in commercial agreements
  • Assist clients with data breach and incident response matters
  • Support regulatory investigations, enforcement inquiries, and compliance projects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on privacy risk management and governance initiatives
  • Monitor developments in privacy, cybersecurity, and emerging technology regulations
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Approximately 3-5 years of privacy and data security experience
  • Experience advising clients on U.S. and international privacy laws and regulations
  • Experience with:
    • Privacy compliance programs
    • Data processing agreements
    • Privacy diligence in corporate transactions
    • Incident response matters
    • Regulatory compliance reviews
  • Strong research, writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Excellent project management and organizational abilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in any of the following areas is a plus:
  • Advertising technology (AdTech)
  • Privacy litigation
  • Artificial intelligence regulation and governance
  • Cybersecurity compliance
  • Regulatory investigations and enforcement matters

Compensation & Benefits
