Appellate Attorney

Our client, a highly respected Pacific Northwest law firm, is seeking an experienced Appellate Attorney with 8-12 years of civil litigation experience to join its appellate practice in Seattle.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned litigator who is passionate about legal writing, appellate advocacy, and complex legal analysis. The successful candidate will work on sophisticated appeals, collaborate closely with trial counsel, and play a strategic role in shaping litigation outcomes through exceptional written and oral advocacy.

Responsibilities

• Draft and edit appellate briefs, dispositive motions, petitions, and other substantive legal filings
• Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis on complex legal issues
• Develop appellate strategies in collaboration with trial teams and clients
• Serve as embedded appellate counsel during trial proceedings when appropriate
• Attend trials and provide appellate-focused guidance on issue preservation and strategy
• Prepare post-trial analyses and appellate recommendations
• Present oral arguments before trial and appellate courts
• Advise clients regarding appellate risks, opportunities, and litigation strategy
• Collaborate closely with attorneys across multiple practice areas on complex matters
• Manage multiple appellate matters and deadlines simultaneously

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Active membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar
• 8-12 years of civil litigation experience
• Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• Strong appellate briefing and motion practice experience
• Superior oral advocacy abilities
• Excellent judgment and strategic thinking skills
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities
• Ability to manage competing deadlines and complex matters efficiently
• Strong interpersonal and client relationship skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Judicial clerkship experience
• Significant appellate litigation experience
• Experience serving as appellate counsel on complex trial matters
• Experience presenting oral arguments in appellate courts

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary: $175,000 – $225,000 annually
• Compensation based on experience, qualifications, and bar year
