Position Description:

Energy Associate (2-3 years exp.) 

Our client, a nationally recognized law firm, is seeking a junior to mid-level Energy Associate with 2-3 years of experience to join its growing Energy Practice. Candidates may be based in San Francisco (preferred), Seattle, or Portland.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney interested in the rapidly evolving energy sector, including renewable energy, transmission infrastructure, utility regulation, energy project development, and the growing energy demands of data centers. The successful candidate will work with developers, utilities, energy market participants, and large energy consumers on sophisticated regulatory, transactional, and infrastructure matters.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on state and federal energy regulatory and policy matters
• Support developers, utilities, and energy market participants in regulatory proceedings and compliance matters
• Assist with matters involving:
  • Electric transmission and grid infrastructure
  • Energy generation and storage projects
  • Interconnection issues
  • Large-load and data center energy matters
  • Natural gas infrastructure
  • Utility ratemaking proceedings
  • Change of control transactions
  • Environmental and renewable energy attributes
• Conduct legal research and analysis regarding energy regulations and market developments
• Draft:
  • Regulatory filings
  • Legal memoranda
  • Compliance materials
  • Client advisories
• Support energy infrastructure transactions and related due diligence efforts
• Assist clients with project development and regulatory strategy
• Coordinate with attorneys across infrastructure, environmental, real estate, corporate, and regulatory practices

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Active bar admission in California or another applicable U.S. jurisdiction
• 2-3 years of relevant experience in one or more of the following:
  • Energy regulatory law
  • Energy project development
  • Utility regulation
  • Energy infrastructure transactions
  • Renewable energy projects
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines effectively
• Interest in energy transition, infrastructure development, and regulatory policy
