Position Description:
Our client is seeking a Chief of Talent Strategy to lead attorney recruiting, talent management, and retention efforts. This strategic leader will partner with firm leadership to attract top legal talent, strengthen attorney development, and build a high-performing, growth-oriented culture.

Key Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition & Recruiting

  • Lead attorney recruiting across all levels, including partners, associates, and counsel
  • Develop and execute firmwide recruiting strategies
  • Build relationships with search firms, recruiters, law schools, and industry organizations
  • Partner with practice leaders on hiring needs, candidate evaluation, and onboarding
  • Track recruiting metrics, market trends, and competitive intelligence
  • Ensure an exceptional candidate experience

Attorney Development & Retention

  • Design and implement attorney engagement, retention, and career development programs
  • Support performance management, succession planning, and advancement strategies
  • Facilitate successful integration of lateral hires
  • Strengthen mentorship and professional development initiatives
  • Advise leadership on attorney talent and workforce planning

Training & Professional Development

  • Oversee attorney training and continuing education programs
  • Develop competency models and career pathways
  • Manage external training resources, workshops, and speakers
  • Evaluate and enhance program effectiveness

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner with firm leadership, practice groups, HR, Marketing, and Operations
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional excellence
  • Enhance the firm’s reputation as an employer of choice within the legal community

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred
  • 7–12+ years of experience in legal recruiting, attorney development, talent management, or a related professional services environment
  • Strong understanding of law firm structures, attorney career progression, and legal recruiting
  • Proven success recruiting attorneys across multiple practice areas and levels
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion

Preferred

  • Experience in a mid-sized or large law firm
  • Law school recruiting and summer associate program experience
  • Background in attorney training, leadership development, or mentoring
  • Experience with performance management and succession planning
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., SHRM, HRCI, coaching, or attorney development credentials)
