Position Description:
Permanent Placements is recruiting a Patent Prosecution Associate with 3–5 years of experience to join a top national law firm’s Electronics & Software practice group. Work closely with Fortune 500 clients on cutting-edge technologies including software, artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, and autonomous vehicle systems.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications.
  • Work directly with engineers and inventors to evaluate new innovations.
  • Prepare responses to USPTO Office Actions.
  • Support IP portfolio development and strategy.
  • Analyze technical documents and conduct prior art reviews.
  • Manage an active docket and maintain regular communication with clients.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of patent prosecution experience in software or advanced technologies.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics, or a closely related field.
  • USPTO registration required.
  • Must be admitted to:
    • California Bar (for San Francisco or Menlo Park hires), or
    • Washington Bar (for Seattle hires).
  • Strong writing skills and ability to translate complex technology into clear patent applications.
