Williams & Connolly Obtains Major Arbitration Win for the Republic of Serbia

In an ICSID arbitration launched by Swiss plaintiffs, Williams & Connolly secured a significant arbitration victory for the Republic of Serbia on April 13, 2026. A concession deal for outdoor advertising in the City of Belgrade gave rise to the issue. The claimants requested more than EUR 175 million in damages and claimed six distinct violations of the relevant bilateral investment treaty. After a merits hearing, the tribunal rendered a comprehensive decision in our client’s favor, rejecting all of the claimants’ claims and giving the Republic of Serbia millions of euros in arbitral and legal fees. The Global Arbitration Review published the victory. On behalf of the Republic of Serbia, Williams & Connolly has won three ICSID arbitration cases.
