Position Description:
Permanent Placements is seeking an Intellectual Property Litigation Associate to join a nationally recognized Am Law 200 firm in its Madison or Milwaukee office with a strong preference for Milwaukee. This role sits within a dynamic national IP practice and offers the opportunity to work on complex intellectual property disputes across multiple industries.

The team handles matters involving patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and related IP issues, and provides associates with exposure to all stages of litigation. This is a strong opportunity for an associate looking to deepen litigation experience within a collaborative, development-focused environment.

This client will also consider candidates in Denver or Washington, D.C.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support all stages of intellectual property litigation

  • Conduct early case assessment and investigations

  • Draft pleadings, motions, and discovery

  • Prepare and respond to written discovery

  • Assist with claim construction briefing and related materials

  • Work with experts on reports and testimony

  • Prepare deposition outlines and exhibits

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of intellectual property litigation experience

  • Experience with patent, trademark, trade secret, or related IP disputes

  • Strong writing, analytical, and organizational skills

  • Experience with discovery and motion practice

  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in a technical or scientific field preferred (e.g., engineering, computer science, biology, chemistry, or related discipline)

  • Excellent academic credentials

  • Prior law firm experience required

  • Admitted in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Work Model

  • Hybrid

  • No strict firmwide hybrid mandate

  • Preferred in-office days are Tuesday and Thursday

  • Initial onboarding period expected onsite before transitioning into a more flexible schedule

Compensation

  • $175,000 to $280,000 annually
