Position Description:
Our client, a nationally recognized Am Law 200 law firm with approximately 500 attorneys across the United States, is seeking an Energy, Environment & Natural Resources Associate to join its growing Chicago office.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an attorney looking to deepen their energy regulatory practice while working alongside highly respected practitioners on sophisticated matters involving utilities, renewable energy, and state regulatory agencies. The Opportunity

As a member of the firm’s Energy, Environment & Natural Resources Practice Group, you will represent clients on a wide variety of complex regulatory matters, including:

• Traditional and non-traditional utility rate cases

• State regulatory investigations

• Administrative rulemaking proceedings

• Retail energy approvals and compliance

Experience with any of the following is highly desirable:

• Renewable energy projects

• Solar incentive programs

• Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)

• Community solar development and contracting

• Retail energy supply agreements

Hybrid Work Schedule

The firm offers a flexible hybrid work environment designed to support collaboration while providing flexibility.

• New hires should expect to work primarily in the office during approximately their first three months to support onboarding, training, relationship building, and integration with the practice group.

• After onboarding, attorneys enjoy increased flexibility with Tuesday and Thursday serving as the firm’s preferred in-office collaboration days.

• There is no rigid long-term hybrid mandate, although attorneys are expected to maintain a consistent in-office presence to support client service and team collaboration.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school

• Approximately 3 to 5 years of energy regulatory experience

• Experience handling state regulatory proceedings

• Strong academic credentials

• Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills

• Commitment to exceptional client service and collaborative teamwork

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary: $190,000 to $280,000

• True 1,850-hour annual billable expectation
